The Institute of Clinical Hypnosis was founded in 1994 by the Principal, Nicola Martin. It is recognised as one of the UK's foremost training colleges for clinical hypnotherapists and has been providing the highest quality of practical and academic hypnotherapy tuition in London since 1995.

Our students are an eclectic bunch ranging from NHS employees to professional therapists qualified in other disciplines. Our students are also lawyers, accountants, actors, writers, musicians, printers, master bakers, cab drivers, restaurateurs, IT consultants, training and personnel managers as well as those nearing retirement or mothers returning to work - anyone, in fact, with an interest both in themselves and in others.

The ICH is an Associate Member Organisation of UKCHO (UK Confederation of Hypnotherapy Organisations), one of the umbrella bodies for the profession. It is also recognised in respect of Career Development Loans by the Learning and Skills Council.

Professionally trained hypnotherapists are likely to have a much deeper understanding of themselves, their feelings and emotions and their relationships with others, resulting in more positive, confident and self-aware individuals.

The ego-strengthening and relaxation techniques learned as part of the courses can have immediate and profound effects upon individuals. For example, stresses become manageable, confidence increases and a more assertive attitude to life is developed.

Students will obviously need to have an interest in hypnosis and many are already healthcare professionals who feel that hypnotherapy can be beneficially incorporated into their existing programmes. However, it is certainly not necessary to have a medical background and our students come from all walks of life.

All ICH courses are educationally challenging. They contain a great deal of stimulating and valuable information, presented in a highly enjoyable manner. Students are encouraged to participate in all aspects of the academic and practical work. The quality of the training at the ICH is of paramount importance. Our lecturers are well qualified both as practitioners and trainers.

Since hypnosis is a subject where you never stop learning, most Diploma graduates continue expanding their knowledge and skills by attending many of our varied and specialised masterclasses, as well as becoming a member of The Association of the Institute of Clinical Hypnosis (AICH). This is highly recommended.

Each of our courses and masterclasses is designed to equip graduates with all of the necessary skills to enable them to begin a new career, if that is what they wish to do. For those wishing to set up their own hypnotherapy practice, students will have all the necessary tools for them to do so having completed our Professional Course and passed our Diploma Examination. However, we strongly encourage the continuation of study by attending our masterclasses.

The ICH never loses sight of the fact that, no matter how good a hypnotherapist you become, you need to survive and prosper in order to practise and help others. To this end, we cover the commercial realities of practice management, marketing and administration so that the hypnotherapists can enjoy a successful and prosperous career.
